Eating Indian food is a delicate matter for many. A lot of the food is high in calories and can be very greasy. If you fancy a bit of a change and don't want to pile on the pounds, then head down to the Preem restaurant and Balti House in the East End of London.

The food tastes just as good, if not better than other restaurants but the secret is in the way it's cooked. Most of the curries are cooked in the oven and oil is kept to a minimum. The natural fat of the meat is used to enhance the flavour.

To kick off our feast, a roast leg of tender baby lamb was placed before us in a sizzling dish, finished off with delicate spices prepared to the chef's special recipe. Too often the natural flavour of the meat is over-powered by the excessive use of herbs, but Preem prefer to enhance the flavour of each dish individually by marinating the food before hand.

If you're in the East End and want a curry that's low in fat and splendid to taste then head down to Preem. At £7.50 per head its a tasty bargain.
